A Man Of War Is The Best Ambassador - 2644 Words
Oliver Cromwell once said, ââ¬Å"A man-of-war is the best Ambassador.â⬠When Theodore Roosevelt became the twenty-sixth President of the United States in 1901, he clearly set his intentions on sending the U.S. on a steep climb towards the top. The top that would unmistakably list the United States as the greatest power in the world. Theodore Roosevelt belonged to a generation with unshakable confidence in the progress of mankind and an equal determination to further that progress. It was a generation that witnessed great breakthroughs in science and technology, and enhanced political stability which reflected a presidentââ¬â¢s skill in ruling himself. During this era, western imperialism, one of the main features of the time period, heavily influenced this mood of confidence to everyone who wanted it. Britainââ¬â¢s white manââ¬â¢s burden, the French mission to civilize, imperial Germanyââ¬â¢s ambition were all consistent with a progress through civilization. This further enhances Rooseveltââ¬â¢s imperialist thought and action which can be applied to the total of American overseas expansion as well. Roosevelt was certainly confident because he viewed expansion by the Great Powers more productive and far more good than harm to both the conquerors and the conquered. Using his powers as president, Roosevelt statically uses U.S. naval sea power to advance his diplomatic efforts to aid the rise of the united States as a great power at the beginning of the twentieth century. The Department Of Defense Networked Systems - 841 Words
The Department of Defense networked systems are large. According to one article in the National Defense Magazine the total number is 15,000 (Erwin, 2013). With this amount of networks to defend, it is remarkable to not hear of more intrusions. However, though this argument is focused for those whom are echelons above the battalion and brigade level, network consolidation should be moved at a much faster pace. Currently there are over five separate networks being utilized by the Army alone. Each network is managed differently and by different security managers. Without proper communication, an attack on one network might go unnoticed by the security managers on other networks. Though convergence is underway, the 9th Mission Support Command took a slight step backwards when the command brought the Army Reserve Network online in 2015, after spending the past six years utilizing the United States Pacific Commandââ¬â¢s network. Such a move would provide security managers, alrea dy working for the Department of Defense, the ability to move to the battalion and brigade level, further reducing the cost of hiring additional CISSPs as well as bolstering training, and local security. The Department of Homeland Security Free Essays
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is an agency created to secure and protect the homeland. It is established primarily to protect the people and the country against attacks from terrorists. Since 2001, 22 separate agencies were merged into a one single cohesive unit which makes up the Department of Homeland Security. We will write a custom essay sample on The Department of Homeland Security or any similar topic only for you Order Now Although the primary purpose and very reason of DHS existent is securing the homeland, DHS is also in the forefront in providing assistance to people during natural calamities and disasters (Vieira, 2005). The agency also administers and monitors the countryââ¬â¢s immigration status and system, thus protecting American people from migrating citizens entering the nation, which are bent on spreading fear and terror. As a result of monitoring the migrating patterns, entry of illegal drugs are prevented as they are stop before crossing American Borders. Thus, by merging the 22 various agencies into single more powerful and cohesive team, coordination and efficiency in performing tasks is achieved. It is no secret that in order to perform such huge missions, unity must be achieve across all government levels all over the nation. With the huge effort and major help the agency has provided and will provide in the near future it is important to understand the plan and strategic actions DHS and the federal government has adapted in protecting our nation. It was a dream come true in creating DHS, since it is a single department built in the primary principle in protecting the people and the nation. The administration has allotted a bigger budget of 11 billion dollars to support state preparedness (Vieira, 2005). The increase in budget will further solidify and strengthen aviation security, border security activities, purchase of necessary medical equipments and would provide an effective mode of managing a new human resource system that will enable hiring of ââ¬Å"cream of the cropâ⬠personnel. With larger budget at hand DHS can now secure advance equipments and devices manufactured by the advent of technology. For instance, in order to secure the nationââ¬â¢s borders, ports and transportation systems from various criminal elements, an effective method that would screen goods and people is necessary. Use of advance information is also vital in managing the risk of guarding the nationââ¬â¢s borders that stretches across 7500 miles of land. Thus, a program that relies in the use of advance information to identify potential high risk shipments and cargo is being build on. The idea is to prevent cargo and shipments from reaching U.S. territory. Pre-screening of cargo and shipments in 20 main foreign ports around the world provides DHS a major assistance in intercepting dangerous people and goods before reaching shores. The process which focuses on the pre-screening tests is known as the Container Security Initiative. On the other hand, ports are made safer by deploying large number of coast guards and strict implementations of maritime security standards for coastal activities and waterway system. Together with the Transportation Security Administration, DHS provide aid to the field of aviation by making of air craft flight safer. Advance screening devices that keep dangerous weapon off the airplanes are provided by the joint efforts. Field air marshals are also called and deployed to protect passengers. Pilots are also trained as last line of defense. DHS also provide assistance to people during disasters and natural calamities. Chaos is not only brought about by people, terrorist and biological warfare. Bigger destructions are brought by disasters and catastrophic accidents generated by the environment such as hurricane, forest fire, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. In order to response to such incident and other terrorist attacks preparedness is important (Baldwin, 2005). Today, DHS is working on itââ¬â¢s readiness to response on those various emergencies. On top of its agenda is to better prepare and coordinate the Nationââ¬â¢s capabilities to improve speed and efficiency of delivering services to our people. Another major assistance the organization provides to the people is information dissemination. With the creation of DHS, warning systems have become more effective and public warning has been enhanced (Baldwin, 2005). With the improved warning systems, cyber and terrorist threats are easily identified, as a result people are warned in advanced. With threats known, countermeasure and contingency plans can then be generated. With a single agency dedicated in providing security to the American people, works are carried out more efficiently and at faster rate, as information is made centralized and securing of documents, which eat ample amount of time, in order to coordinate with other agency which has jurisdiction in certain case is not necessary. Time is conserved and as a result DHS functions more effectively. The agency then is able to generate necessary countermeasures. Also, by merging the different agencies and forming one immense organization strength and skills are then concentrated and focused much better. Resources are also conserved and man power is utilized more efficiently. Furthermore, confusion into which jurisdiction the different cases will fall not arise, since operations are all sanctioned by the department. Leakage of information can also be controlled, since there is no need for the DHS to inform other agency, thus a more controlled surrounding which is manageable is attained. However, creating a single agency which handles affairs that provides protection to the homeland poses several critical issues. The scope of DHS mission is broad which encompasses terrorist affairs, natural calamities and entry of illegal drugs. With the merging of different agencies to form the DHS, special agencies and units which are created for specific functions are also merged with the homeland department. Although by merging, it has become a part of a new organization, it has also become a regular unit which receives general orders unlike before when they are called for special situations and specialize in performing specific functions. Also, the budget the department needs balloons every year as several agendas are needed to be tended. Since, DHS is the organization which functions and executes actions with all matters related and concerning about security and protection of our people and homeland, the organization requires large financial assistance and grants. After the 2001 attack, the lives and the way our people live had change. For instance, the creation of DHS as a sole organization that would provide security and protection to the people and homeland are actions that are generated by the attacks. In an effort to strengthen intelligence reports and ability to combat and fight terrorists affairs, various agencies have joined hands and merged to prevent incidents that lead to the September 11 attacks. The end result is an agency that promises to protect the people by controlling the borders, provide protection and support to aviation and port security, increase preparedness in emergency response and counter act the affairs of different elements that threatens the peace and security of the people. From the organizationââ¬â¢s mission we can infer that they are logically tied together as they all sought for stoppage of criminal and terrorists acts that are detrimental to the nation and the people. They are measures and strategic actions that are carried out in order to safe guard the people and allow them to live their everyday lives free from fear uncertainties. As various elements continue to threaten the nation and its people, DHS will continue to be at the forefront of the war against them. With the advent of new technology and new devices and equipments being invented, preventions and countermeasures to terrorist and criminal attacks are not impossible to achieve. Furthermore that administration had greatly supported the organization and had generously provided it with a ââ¬Å"generousâ⬠amount for its budget. There is no doubt about the importance of the organization and its value to our citizen. From anticipation and early forecast of warning of threats discovered that the public are about to encounter up to operations and countermeasures and emergency response after attacks and disaster, the departmentââ¬â¢s unwavering efforts would be evident and as long as there are elements that are trying to cross the American borders, spreading fear and terror to our people, DHS will live to its promise and expectations and provide our people with the much needed services. Code Hero1 Essay Example For Students
Code Hero1 Essay Robert Jordan has been defined as a Hemingway code hero. In Hemingways books, a code hero is usually male, as Hemingways books seem to have a similarity to Hemingway himself. These code heroes may have been previously wounded or gone through some sort of an ordeal, and so they could have a drinking problem, or a problem sleeping. They seem to be disillusioned, and/or self-oriented, and are not usually loyal to a large cause, but rather a small group of people or a relatively small idea or thing. In For Whom the Bell Tolls, Robert Jordan, the code hero, most likely dies at the end. If it were not for his loyalty to a small group, the events in the novel would probably not have transpired as they did. Jordan is an American explosives expert. Being so much of an expert that he would be sent on such a mission indicates that he must have some experience in military demolitions, and he may have previously gone through a similar mission. A traumatic experience from a previous mission may very well be affecting his actions in the novel, such as how he has found himself in various situations of indecision. One such example could be the confrontation with Pablo at the beginning, and the continuing problems Pablo causes. Indecision could provide a reason for having a sleeping problem, as he does some things other than sleeping at night, one of the criteria for a code hero. Disillusionment can be seen as the main contributor to the code hero definition. Jordans disillusionment grows throughout the novel, to the point where he doesnt believe in the rebel cause whatsoever, war itself, or the killing of other human beings in the name of a cause. After Jordan kills the fascist who wanders near his sleeping bag, he is bothered by a constant feeling of guilt. It seems that Jordan experiences a change as the novel progresses, but his determination to complete the very dangerous mission never wavers, even though it becomes very clear that they will probably not escape. His code hero ethic to do what he needs to do manages to defeat his feelings for Maria, his growing negative feeling about the cause, and war itself. If Jordan had simply abandoned the mission, he would have been able to live happily ever after with Maria, but he would have let general Golz down by not doing what he was sent to do. At the end of the novel, Jordan ends being injured in the process of trying to escape. He convinces Maria to leave him and escape with the rest of the band. Agustin even offers to put him out of his misery, so he doesnt have to face the approaching fascists. Jordan, however, does not want to go out without a fight. By facing death bravely, he also aids those whose lives he has endangered. The code heros ability to show grace under pressure also becomes a factor in Robert Jordans definition. At the very end of the novel, Jordan finds himself with a broken leg. The fascists are catching up, and the band is trying to carry him to safety, even though with him, the chances of escaping become very slim. Here, Jordan goes above and beyond the call of duty by staying behind to hold off the fascists. Sacrificing himself not for the cause, but for the small group, is what gives us Hemingways definition of a code hero. Sylvia plath poetry Essay Example For Students
Sylvia plath poetry Essay Her vivid imagery, striking metaphors and similes, refreshing honesty, wide array of emotions and background certainly made me pause and appreciate my life. Such poems as Child, The times are tidy, Poppies in July and Blackfoot in rainy weather, will challenge readers and give readers a different perspective in life. The poem Child by Plat deals with the theme of motherhood. A theme which has a universal appeal as parents may have a mutual feeling for their child as the feelings Plat has for hers. I also was able to relate the love that Plat has for her child to the love my parents would have for me and now have a renewed respect for them. The mom has a very optimistic tone as Plat expresses her hopes, desires and wishes for her child. The poem is very uplifting because of this, I even found myself smiling while reading the poem. The poem was most poignant when Plat says your eye is the one absolutely beautiful thing, this sweet line implies that everything else in the poets life is somehow tainted or imperfect. The opening of this poem is therefore a blend of Joy at her childs beauty and despair that nothing else in the poets life is similarly lovely. Through reading this poem, young readers get to understand the eve that parents have for them and the hope that parents have that their childs lives would be better than their own. This poem is dissimilar to her other poems I have studied which are disturbing however I found this poem meaningful and very interesting to read. Her poem The times are tidy is definitely worth reading. It is about the loss of imagination and excitement, Plat laments the loss of legendary heroism and wicked witches. There are many emotions in Plashs poetry, most of which are sad and depressing and contribute to the tormented and anguished persona. She is very emotional of the fact that peoples imaginations are dying. She says that: Unlucky the hero born. This shows how she is negative about the modern world. She explains that due to modern technologies skilled individuals are now left idle. Where the most watchful cooks go Jobless. This poem is a merciless attack, on contemporary society. She is afraid that the next generation may experience material wealth but at the expense of spiritual wealth, But the children are better for it, the cow milks cream an inch thick. Although this poem was written in the sass, the same problems addressed by Plat in the society f her time are the same problems that still exist in present society, I. E. Mechanization. In this poem she expresses a sen se of regret that events that fuelled peoples imagination have ended and that the world we live in is safer. Again, this sense of regret contributes to the vivid portrait of a tormented and distressed individual, who is evocative about the past. The poem Poppies in July is Just immersed in Plashs pain or even the lack of it. The state she describes is profoundly terrifying. It exhausts her to watch the poppies flickering, yet she purposely and knowingly continues to watch them. I personally think this is one of Plashs most disturbing poems. In this poem we are seeing a rather neurotic and paranoid attitude from Plat. She perceives the poppies as hell flames. She wishes for pain or death:if I could bleed or sleep. She is at a point where her mind is so shocked and tired that it cannot even feel:but colorless. colorless. Poppies are usually an image of happiness and nature but in Plashs poem, we can see through her dubious and appalling honesty that even the nice things in life are making her angry and upset. She uses similes and metaphors to compare and personify the poppies to ride and disturbing images: The skin off mouth, Little bloody skirts. I am Just grief-stricken at her intensely mental anguish. .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f , .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f .postImageUrl , .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f , .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f:hover , .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f:visited , .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f:active { border:0!important; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f:active , .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ufdd027d18fbda9a90ed74d912bce1f9f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Compare the poems 'Out, Out' by Robert Frost and 'Mid Term Break' by Seamus Heaney EssayThis poem has certainly made me appreciate my life and I have definitely learned to appreciate everything I have. I could never imagine anyone coming to such a mental state as to cause them to yearn for oblivion and non-being as Plat does in this poem. Lastly, the poem Blackfoot in rainy weather is a poem written by Plat about her lack of inspiration. The poem is set in a rather bleak mundane landscape. There seems to be nothing interesting happening and Plat acknowledges this: l do not expect a oracle or an accident to set the sight on fire. Yet she desires, craves and longs for someth ing exciting to occur. Some backtalk. From the mute sky. I think there is a lot to be learned about Sylvia Plat from this poem. I gained an understanding of her work as a poet and also learned that she is humble she is not a boastful person as she speaks of not being able to find inspiration as if she had writers block. shall patch together a content of sorts. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s work, The tragedy of Othello, has four main themes: racism, love, jealousy, and betrayal (Jones 2). This paper endeavors to discuss what makes Othello a tragic figure and whether or not his tragedy is self inflicted or it is beyond his control. William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s in troduces the audience to his literal work by highlighting a confrontation between Roderigo, who is depicted as a wealthy and corrupt gentleman, and Iago. Apparently, Roderigo questions Iago as to why he had not informed him about the secret marriage between Othello and Desdemona. Roderigo had initially requested Senator Brabantio, Desdemonaââ¬â¢s father for permission to marry his daughter. As such, Roderigo feels unhappy with the turnaround of events and he finds it hard to accept the fact that he had lost Desdemona to Othello. During the confrontation, it is evident that Iago is unhappy with the action taken by Othello to promote Cassio to a higher rank. In addition, Iago paints a picture that Othello had gone to bed with his wife, Emilia. Iago vows to fight back and his aim is to impair Othelloââ¬â¢s power. Since Iago and Roderigo had one common enemy, Othello, they decided to work together with the main goal of punishing their enemy. Thus, Iago convinces Roderigo to inform Desdemonaââ¬â¢s father about Desdemonaââ¬â¢s secret marriage to Othello. Iago secretly plans a confrontation between Othello and Senator Brabantio. He informs Othello that his father in law is on the way. However, before Senator Brabantio had arrived, Othello is summoned by the senate to plan on how to counter an alleged attack from their neighbors, the Turks. Upon his arrival, ââ¬Å"Desdemonaââ¬â¢s father accuses his son in law before the senate of using witchcraft to seduce his daughterâ⬠(Nabil 5). However, Othello disagrees with his father in lawââ¬â¢s accusations and states that Desdemona loves him. The senate believes Othelloââ¬â¢s side of the story and he is excused to focus on the impeding war. Senator Brabantio exits but warns Othello that Desdemona will betray him. Othello is ordered by his superior Duke to go and command the Venetian army against the Turks. Othello goes along with his wife, Cassio, Iago, and Emilia.Advertising Looking for resear ch paper on british literature? Let's see if we can help you! Othello, as the commander of the Venetian army calls for a general celebration. The party gives Iago a chance to scheme his vengeance against Othello and Cassio. Iago intends to spoil the relationship between Othello and Cassio, so he uses Roderigo to achieve his mission. Iago ensures that Cassio has taken excess wine and becomes drank. This makes it easy for Roderigo to engage Cassio in a fight. A disturbance erupts following the fight between Cassio and Roderigo, and Othello is forced to calm the situation. Othello is unhappy with Cassio and demotes him. This action demoralizes Cassio. Iago finds another chance to inflict his revenge on Cassio and Othello. Iago asks Cassio to request Desdemona to be the mediator between him and Othello so that she can talk to her husband and ask Othello to reinstate him. Iago cements his scheme by informing Othello to be weary of a growing relationship between Desdemona and Cassio. Cassio finds a prostitute called Bianca to sooth him following the stress he had after being demoted. Desdemona accidentally drops a handkerchief, which Othello had given her as a symbol of their love. Emilia takes the handkerchief an aware of its significance. Iago request Emilia to give him the handkerchief. Iago uses it to paint a picture that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair. He then secretly places the handkerchief in Cassioââ¬â¢s bedroom. Iago then informs Othello about this incident. He request Othello to stand at a distance as he questions Cassio about the handkerchief. During their discussion, Cassio speaks bout the name of Bianca so quietly that Othello believes he is truly having an affair with Desdemona. However, Iagoââ¬â¢s scheme almost suffers a setback. As he discusses the handkerchief issue with Cas sio, Bianca arrives and accuses Cassio for allegedly cheating on her with Desdemona. Othello realizes this development and gives his wifeââ¬â¢s infidelity allegations a second thought. However, Iago successfully manages to convince him that Desdemona is cheating on him with Cassio. Othello vows to kill Desdemona. He also asks Iago to get rid off Cassio. Out of anger, Othello mistreats his Wife and even hits her before her family. Roderigo gives up on his pursuit of Desdemona but Iago encourages him to continue with his aim. At the same time, Cassio is appointed the governor of Cyprus. Iago uses this development to ask Roderigo to go on with his pursuit (Nabil 5). Iago asks Roderigo to kill Cassio. Iago takes the opportunity during the fight between Cassio and Roderigo to cut Cassioââ¬â¢s leg from behind. Iago disguises himself such that no one notices him. Iago then joins passers by who had come to rescue Cassio. However, Cassio recognizes Roderigo as one of those who had assaulted him. On realizing this, Iago secretly gets rid off Roderigo in fear of the fact that Roderigo might confess. During the same night, Othello kills his wife and Emilia arrives in time and witnesses the act (Nabil 5). Othello tries to make Emilia see the reasons as to why he had killed Desdemona. However, Emilia screams for help. This draws the attention of the governor, Iago and Cassio. Emilia explains to the astonished audience about Othelloââ¬â¢s heinous act. Othello tries to justify his act by reve aling the incident of the handkerchief. After Othelloââ¬â¢s testimony, Emilia realizes that Iago had used the handkerchief to scheme the allegation that Cassio and Desdemona had an affair. Emilia reveals to the others what Iago had done. Unfortunately, Iago kills her for exposing him. At the same time, Othello is left devastated because he realizes that his wife was innocent. Out of anger, he attacks Iago but he decided not to kill him so that Iago would live with guilt. Iago states that he would not reveal his motives. Both Iago and Othello are apprehended. However, Othello commits suicide by stubbing himself with a sword on their way to the custody. Iago is taken to custody and at the same time Cassio takes his position as the governor of Cyprus. Having looked at the plot The Tragedy of Othello, it is evident that Othelloââ¬â¢s tragedy is not self inflicted and it was not within his control. In addition, it was as a result of his tragic law. Othello appears strong from the o utside but actually he is weak inside. His love for Desdemona is the biggest weakness and his enemies take advantage of this weakness. Othello loved his wife so dearly that he could not bear seeing her with another man. Iago takes advantage of this situation to get back at Othello for having promoted his junior Cassio, and for allegedly sleeping with his wife, Emilia. Iago schemes traps in which Othello falls unknowingly. Experts argue that is blind and people who are in love are likely to make irrational decisions. This is often true in cases whereby a lover is weak inside. Othello is a perfect example. Iago made Othello believe that his wife, Desdemona was having an affair with his assistant, Cassio. The mistake that Othello did was he failed to investigate those allegations. He relied heavily on hearsay from Iago. Othelloââ¬â¢s tragic ending can also be attributed to his tragic law. He made the mistake of believing in Iago rather than his soul mate. Othello fell in Iagoââ¬â ¢s trap on two critical occasions (Young 4). In the first occasion, Othello was made to believe that it was Cassio who started the fight at the party. This incident formed a fertile ground for the execution of Iagoââ¬â¢s schemes.Advertising Looking for research paper on british literature? Let's see if we can help you! Namely, Alices Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are two classic works of childrens literature that for over a century have been read by children and adults alike. Carroll first published Alice Adventures in Wonderland in 1865, three years after he had first told the story to the young girl Alice Liddell and her sisters, following for a story. The creation of this story began on a river picnic as Carroll began telling the tale of Alice in Wonderland to entertain the girls. Through the Looking Glass was published six years after the first, when Alice was a teenager. This story was more logical than the first and clearly differed from it in both its style and direction. The introduction of Alice and how she finds herself in the other world is very different in each of the stories. In Alices Adventures in Wonderland, Alices curiosity and boredom leads her to follow the White Rabbit as he rushes passed her. She ends up falling down the rabbit hole which takes both her and the reader into a world of magic and disorder. Carrolls Wonderland is a place where Alice finds many of the characters difficult and odd. She encounters various characters along her journey, many of whom likely represented real people known to the real Alice Liddell. Throughout the first story, Alice also finds herself growing and shrinking at various stages, something that Carroll does not repeat in Through the Looking Glass. Alices curiosity also leads her into the other world in Throug ...
